Sensei Joe Talerico, 5th Dan

Sensei Talerico began studying Shotokan karate in 1981 in Brooklyn, New York with Sensei Alex Sternberg. In the early days of his career he focused on competition during which time he won 9 National gold medals and 4 international gold medals. He spent 5 years on the US Karate Team and practiced with many national and international coaches and instructors.

After completing his competition career he focused on teaching. Sensei Talerico built his school to an active student base of more than 300 students before moving to Salt Lake City, Utah where he currently practices Wado Ryu karate with Sensei Doug Jepperson.

Some of his accomplishments include USAKF National gold medals in 1989, '90, '91, '92, '93; USANKF National gold in '94, two in 2000, and 2001. He won 3 gold medals in international competition in the Greece Goodwill tournament in '94 and gold in the Venezuela Cup in '95. He also won bronze medals in PUKO Pan American Championships in '94 and North American Cup in '93. Joe also had over two dozen students win national championships and three who competed for Team USA as well.
